I’m back. I did not write last week. Different reasons for that. Anyway still off work but not kind of. ? So the gift shop that I work in is still closed, but I have been going in late some nights and working on different things. It’s kind of nice honestly to work again. I’m an introvert, and I don’t mind being at home, but I’ve done about all my projects that I wanted to do. It would be nice to get back into the normal swing of things.
On a personal note, I realized there were some things in my life that were becoming a sin and distraction so I am working on cutting that out of my life. I was trying to just control it, and I realize that’s not working. So if you want to pray for me you can pray that I will do what I need to and leave that and not fall into temptation.
Anyway, I thought this week I would talk about an anime series that I have watched a number of times and really enjoy. There is also a live-action version that I have seen a few episodes of, a manga series I have tried to get a hold of, and (I found just recently) a novel. The King’s Avatar. Now, this is a Chinese story and not Japanese. So as a heads up they talk really fast and it can be harder to read the subtitles. I have not found a dubbed version.
Now the story is about video gaming. Now I am not a video game player. I have only ever played some games on little handheld devices that may not even be considered true video games. That and some hunting games. I was terrible at both. So normal I am not one who cares about these kinds of stories, but the story itself is really good.
The man character is a professional video game player. Esports. Do to politics and a variety of reasons, he is forced to retire. Those who push him out are trying to end his career. He is old for being a professional and with retiring he is not allowed to play professionally for a year which will make him even older. His character (or avatar) he plays is owned by the company and is taken from him too. However, this man is one of the best of the best. Yes, he is older, but he knows more and can play better than almost anyone else. So he starts over, creates a new avatar, and starts from the beginning again. You follow him as he works his way back up. He finds new talent and helps them along, as well as proves that he is still a force to be reckoned with.
He is a fun character with a lot of sass and he’s no pushover. He’s famous, but because he kept his face hidden he is surrounded by people who have no idea who he is. He’s incredibly smart and keeps his cool even when old adversaries try to hurt him again.
Now I did skim the last chapter to I kind of know where the story goes, but I don’t know how they get from point A to point B. The anime only gets you started. Now there are three ova’s that are very good, and I think it will or has gotten a second season, but I have not seen it yet. It also has a prequel movie that I plan to watch soon.
Now a big thing about the book. I’m reading it online so it’s a little hard to say how long chapters are. I would say about 2 to 3 pages but…there are 17 hundred chapters! 1728 to be exact. Yes, I am reading it right now, and I plan to read all of it. I’m in the 200’s now, and I’ve almost caught up to how much the anime shows. There’s a lot that happens in the book that is not covered in the anime or is only talked about. It can be hard to catch it all, but you can understand the story even if you don’t understand all the little detail. The book is good about explaining everything which is good for me, you’re gaming illiterate.
So here is a recommendation for something very different then what I normally talk about. If you’re feeling brave and really interested, you can read the book with me too. Otherwise, maybe check out the anime.
Until next time, God Bless.
